Beyond the Walls

 Lauren’s gated community in Robledo reminds me of the grand walls in the series “Attack On Titan”. In AOT, the massive walls surrounding the last of humanity serve to protect them from the grotesque titans residing in the wild. Any time a scouting party is sent outside those walls, at least half are expected to die. Similarly, the world outside the gated community in Robledo has fallen to pieces, but due to more modern reasons. In both cases, the outside world eventually finds ways to creep in and infect humanity's final stands. On the other hand, the outside world provides an opportunity in both worlds, such as the case with Earthseed and titan-shifters in AOT.
