New Language
I can’t help but think of 1984 when reading this novel. The most noticeable is the manipulation of language. The fact that it shows up in several well-known dystopias makes me realize how important language is to us, and how serious censoring it can be. There aren’t modern examples that I can think about concerning language censorship (except for speaking against the government, though that doesn’t manipulate the language). I wonder what censorship would look like in the future. In this case, we see censorship of women and babies. And of course, terms such as “Offred”.
